MLM is also called multilevel marketing or network marketing, which translates to the pyramid scheme in many marketing circles. It is a very questionable business practice whereby you make money based upon how many people you know, how much money these people make and they make money based upon the same thing.

Many companies are operating on MLM at the moment but many more are doing so fraudulently, and therefore because of this sometimes deserved reputation for fraudulent behavior, it is often difficult to find someone who will handle your merchant account for an MLM type business.

The point is, of those persons who may have paid these businesses, there are more than a few who are currently suing and attempting a refund of monies invested. Making the payment by credit card will recoup some of their losses; however, if they did not do so and rather paid cash instead, it is questionable at best if they would be able to regain that funding.

If you took part in an MLM and would like to recoup your money for the payment, it is to be hoped that you paid by credit card in which case you are liable only to cancel the transaction with your company who will refund the money to your credit card balance.

The difficulty is that for many of those businesses who operate on MLM type workings i.e., if there are a great many charge-backs, they bank will sometimes charge them a fee of as much as 35 dollars, which could result in a substantial loss for the MLM Company.

These are not uncommon problems and even if your business, in this respect, is a legitimate one. You may still suffer that stereotype of the MLM because of the behavior of some of the less scrupulous members of the MLM society.

Companies that provide accounts and services to MLMs do exist. One of the most popular is Paysystems. This company will pay every seven days rather than biweekly or monthly with a very low, less than four percent processing fee and no other charges.

Paysystems also has a build-in shopping cart in the system that they provide to you at no additional charge. This permits you the luxury of providing an easy shopping cart software service for your clients that will auto calculate shipping and offer digital coupons to your customers.

The biggest bonus will be that the system takes less than two hours to set up and will aid you greatly in management of your physical inventory so that you will not run short of things again. It has a setup wizard to assist you should you have problems in that regard as well. You may also, if you wish, sell goods such as e-books or software and will receive an order page that is included with your system. You may run a membership site which will permit you to charge your consumers and be paid monthly, or you may set up a free trial that will auto bill them at the end of the trial period so that your company gets its due at the right time. Although some services are restricted such as alcohol, firearms or “adult” material, Paysystems does accept MLM  type companies and will do business with nearly every company. They also do not require monthly minimums to avoid a fee for maintenance.

If you’ve got an online business or are running any type of business, at some point, you’ll want to set up a merchant account in order to accept credit cards. To do this, you’ll need to find a merchant account provider. The question is, should you use an offshore merchant account?

There are pros and cons to using a domestic versus offshore merchant account. First of all, of course, tax liability will generally be lower with an offshore merchant account versus a domestic one. However, it should be noted that if you use a domestic merchant account, you’ll likely take advantage of increased competition, which has been good for both consumers and merchants. For example, competition has driven interest rates down from approximately 7% per transaction to about 3%.

With an offshore merchant account, of course, set up is generally easier, often with no deposit or set up fee required, and tax liability is reduced, both for what you bring in and what you keep. However, fees for offshore merchant accounts are generally higher; do your homework and make sure not to buy into hype.

Make sure as well but what you’re doing is perfectly legal, since no savings is worth any headaches you might acquire by doing something illegal, even if you do so unknowingly. Make sure that the offshore merchant account you use, if applicable, is legal and aboveboard; it should be well established and have a good reputation. You can find most of this information quite easily on the Internet, by reading up on a particular company you’re investigating.

Some places also do not actually require you to have a merchant account but in fact you can do third party processing offshore as well. Do your homework for these types of situations. Of course, make sure that the company you choose, as with any merchant account provider, is an established business that has a good reputation and will handle your money with care.

Finally, make sure that the offshore third-party provider you choose, if you do so, is also well enough recognized by customers that they will have no qualms buying through you with a third-party provider. Some of these establishments are not yet well known, but will be. Others may not be fully aboveboard.

Therefore, again, it behooves you do your homework. You should also know that many if not most merchant account providers these days provide currency exchanges so that you can service customers from around the world, whatever their currency. Again, this is a service you want to look into if you expect to be doing any selling to customers from other countries with different currencies, and if you’re in e-commerce, it’s likely that you will.

Each week I go to the grocery store with list in hand. I say a little prayer that the shelves are stocked and the lines are short. All of us are so terribly busy these days that any and all time savers are welcomed with open arms. Imagine if the store did not offer a way for me to haul my potential purchases from aisle to aisle? I would either turn and head straight for the competitor or cry myself home. The same ease of use is just as necessary in an online store and this is possible with a shopping cart system.

Ecommerce is booming and there is no end in sight! Owning and operating an online site is a great way to reach customers that otherwise would never find you. But in order to keep those customers not only must you offer products they want for competitive prices, but a simple way for customers to purchase them.

Many users are still adjusting to Ecommerce and will gladly pay more at a site that is easy to purchase from. Without a shopping cart program potential customers may become frustrated not knowing exactly how many of a product is available and if they can order multiples. Shopping cart programs greatly influence Ecommerce.

What exactly can a shopping cart do?

  • Offer REAL TIME Product Availability for Customers
  • Automatically Tracks Inventory
  • Tracks Which Items Customers Purchase and Look at
  • Invaluable Market Research Capabilities
  • Offers Product “Suggestions” based on Items in Customer’s Cart
  • Allows Customization based on a Business’s Needs

Many internet businesses use some type of shopping cart system. In fact, most programs help a business to develop an online store front, adding to the Ecommerce family. A shopping cart system can fully integrate into a business site, offering many cross-promotion opportunities.

One other terrific bonus is the ability to create a united marketing image. Logo design and custom report sheets are just a taste of what is available. As more and more businesses turn to Ecommerce you can no longer rely on the family “computer geek” to help set-up your website.

An online business must be more sophisticated that that of yesterday. Customers are not satisfied with “emailing customer service” to receive an updated list of inventory. Your site need not be as detailed as the Big Boys, but is must be just as easy to use. Ease of use is one of the shopping carts greatest contributions to Ecommerce.

Know your needs. What are you planning to sell? How many items will you make available? These are just a few of the questions you need to ask yourself when deciding on the perfect shopping cart system. Do your research and get your hat into the Ecommerce ring.

If you’ve got an online business or you’re thinking about starting one, one of the first things you will likely need to think about is a merchant account. A merchant account, while not cheap, will allow you to accept credit cards and give you more flexibility in your business.

There are many well known and easy to set up merchant account entities; do your homework and choose the best one for you. Some merchant accounts allow you to set up with no money down, while others will charge you a setup fee but will typically charge you a lower processing fee. Some will also lower your fees based on volume.

There are three methods to getting a merchant account: banks, intermediaries, and third-party services. Perhaps the first place to look to set up a merchant account is your local bank. Oftentimes, they will send you information about opening a merchant account up with them when they send you “new business account” materials after you’ve opened up a business account with them.

Of course, banks are still catching up to the Internet age and so some may still be in the dark about e-commerce and e-commerce solutions.

You should also know that if you want to work directly with your bank, you’ll need to have a solid credit history in good standing and be able to prove your solvency. You may be asked to provide financial records and even undergo an audit. In general, banks are loath to give very small businesses merchant accounts, so this particular method of establishing a merchant account is often not even possible for small start up e-commerce sites.

The second way you can get a merchant account is through an intermediary. An intermediary sets up your account through a bank, but the service acts as your representative and knows how to handle the process of getting the merchant account through the bank better.

They basically improve your chances of getting a merchant account, especially if you’re new to this and don’t know what you’re doing.

The third way you can get a merchant account is by a third-party service. This is often the method people use when they have not had luck obtaining a merchant account through the other two methods. For some, this will be the best way to go about getting a merchant account, since setup is quick and easy. In addition, even new business owners have a relatively easy time understanding how to use these services.

One drawback to third-party services is that they don’t pay as quickly as intermediary or direct banking services do. Typically, third-party services pay roughly every two weeks to every month, while intermediary or bank services deposit payments from customers in your account within 24 hours to 48 hours.

Another drawback is that you have to actually send customers to the third-party site in order to process payments; this can make you look somewhat unprofessional, although because this has become more common in recent years with the e-commerce explosion, customers are now used to going to third-party sites.

It should be noted that all services, whether direct bank, intermediary, or third-party, charge fees that range from setup fees to per-transaction fees. So again, as you work on this can do your homework, make sure that the merchant account service and method you use gives you the greatest return for the least cost. This is basically what it all boils down to.

If you sell any type of product or service online, the crème a la crème of business shopping support is an online shopping cart. Now, an online shopping cart is not to be confused with a website shopping cart. These carts are similar in name and function, but very different in capability and function.

A good online shopping cart will make a site a joy to shop. A great benefit is the ability to accept multiple payment forms. We all know that Paypal allows you to send money to a billion countries, ok not quite, with just an email address or phone number. But accepting Paypal as your preferred method of payment is highly unprofessional! Online shopping carts have Merchant Services and payment gateways that allow other forms of online payment.

Not only do online shopping carts allow multiple payment forms, but also give the customer a transaction receipt. The Payment Gateway at the end of the transaction is how this is accomplished. And if you don’t automatically provide a receipt of some sort, customers will be clamoring for one. Customers need, and deserve the security a receipt offers if a problem or question needs to be addresses.

Major Benefits of an Online Shopping Cart

Your Website Does not Support the Cart
Well, maybe it could. But it doesn’t have to! An online shopping cart is supported elsewhere and saving you time.

Forget About Learning HTML
If you would like to take the time to understand enough HTML to properly install and initialize your shopping cart, don’t choose an online cart. Online shopping carts are simple to add and don’t rely on your programming know how.

Completely SSL Protected
As more and more people make the leap and purchase products online, a sense of familiarity with online shopping is developing. Customers may be comfortable, but they are not stupid! SSL encryption is a must for any shopping cart system and an online cart provides this.

Online shopping carts offer many benefits for you and your customers. They can help you keep track of inventory, shipping costs and even taxes! Now if it would only do them for you . . . If you’re ready to sign-up for an online shopping cart system, don’t. First understand your needs and which services you want to subscribe. Different programs have somewhat different subscription charges, but they all charge for services you sign-up for regardless of use. Save yourself a few dollars by purchasing just what you need. If you find yourself needing extra services, simply contact your provider and add them on.

Regardless of services decided upon, any online shopping cart is guaranteed to be refreshingly easy to use for both you and your customers.
